What does our service do?
Our service helps Lewiston-area homeowners start an informed conversation about an accessory dwelling unit. Tell us what kind of household you want to create, where the project is and what you already know about the property.

Who evaluates the property?
Your selected contractor evaluates the property, prepares the estimate and identifies the permits and inspections the project requires. We do not provide construction estimates, direct the work or guarantee a contractor’s performance.
Use Lewiston Planning, Maine’s ADU statute and the Maine Attorney General’s construction guidance as starting references. Confirm the requirements for your own property before committing to a plan.

Who is Greg Plummer?
Greg Plummer is a fictional planning persona used in our illustrations. Our real intake staff handles your inquiry. The persona is not presented as a licensed professional or a contractor with completed projects.

How is the service paid?
Our introduction service is free for homeowners. Contractors may pay a commission when referred work closes. You enter your own agreement with the contractor and pay that contractor directly.

What should you verify yourself?
Ask for references from similar work, confirm current insurance and read the proposed scope and payment schedule. Check the municipal requirements for your parcel before buying plans or relying on a promised start date.

How do you compare ADU options?
Compare a separate home, a garage apartment and an in-law apartment against the household’s needs. Include the daily entrance route, utility work and the existing building’s condition.

What do you want the second home to do?
Tell us about the household, the property and the kind of unit you are considering.
